Patience Corners
120 FIlm, Digitally Printed Fabric, White Thread, Red Chalk

The final structure of the quilt was informed by its title, pattern, and the images themselves. Each image within the piece was developed and manipulated by hand, using fire, smoke, and touch. This process left the negatives of my childhood home damaged, with intervening marks obscuring clear imagery. The images were then pieced together according to the chosen pattern, creating a scattered effect that parallels the fleeting nature of memories.
Ultimately, the piece is a vulnerable free-hanging form that challenges the traditional definition of a quilt. Instead of using multiple layers of fabric or fiber, “Patience Corners” consists of a single layer of manipulated negatives printed on cotton and cut into an abstract shape. The open and half-finished back of the work is a direct reference to the ongoing and incomplete nature of familial ties, with each thread connecting the images representing an experience with my parents.
